Event Technology
Destination Earth is a major European Commission initiative that aims to create a digital twin of the Earth by the end of this decade.
It is an information system for strategic research that produces climate and extreme weather simulations of unprecedented accuracy. Modelling them takes a significant amount of computing power, and the jointly European-owned LUMI supercomputer, hosted by CSC in Kajaani, Finland, has played a key role in simulating the first digital twins.
The international launch event for the first phase of Destination Earth was held at the LUMI data centre in Kajaani in early June 2024.

CSC, which organised the event on behalf of the European Commission, was looking for a highly reliable technical solution. The production involved a vast number of details that all had to work together flawlessly. Participants would join both on site and remotely, the overall experience had to be visually impressive, and the technical producer needed to be flexible in proposing solutions. The technical provider also had to demonstrate that its own processes for personal data processing and information security met the client's requirements.
